Brutal Legend-like

Activision, the publisher, and Neversoft and Vicarious Visisions, as the developers, have confirmed that they are working on a new Guitar Hero title, Warriors of Rock. The companies also delivered some more information on the new installment, saying that they are planning to shake up the traditional structure of the Guitar Hero series, offering an epic quest to follow and taking out the celebrity avatars that could be used to play the various songs included.

The entire game experience will be built around an epic quest that players need to undertake. Brian Bright, who is project director at Neversoft, told Nintendo Power that “The Beast defeats the demigod of rock and the demigod of rock is entombed in stone and his legendary guitar is banished. It is the source of his power. And so you are going through and assembling an army of warriors to be able to defeat the beast. Along the way, you'll have to recover the legendary guitar.”

The preview in the Nintendo Power magazine shows off that supporting characters like Lars Umlaut and Johnny Napalm can transform into mythical creatures, half man and half beast, as they help the player on their journey.

The aesthetics seem pretty similar to those seen in last year's Brutal Legend, a game, which told the story of a roadie that was transported into a world built around the concepts of old heavy metal albums where they needed to battle foes using their guitar and rock allies.

Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock, as the name suggests, is also set to focus more on traditional shredding rock and roll, with other titles in the franchise picking up the effort to include more mainstream tracks. The company has not confirmed the platforms on which the title will arrive and has not committed to any launch date.
