Grand Theft Auto V, the next installment in Rockstar Games' hugely successful franchise, is set to be announced in the following months, at least according to a new report that surfaced on the web.

The Grand Theft Auto franchise has impressed generations of gamers and managed, with the last title, to immerse them in a living and breathing city where they could do pretty much anything they wanted, from driving fast to killing pedestrians while riding tanks or attack helicopters.

Since the release of GTA IV, many gamers have wondered just when the next title might appear, especially since Rockstar has yet to formally confirm that a new Grand Theft Auto game is coming, instead launching new titles like Red Dead Redemption or the recent L.A. Noire.

Now, it seems that GTA fans should get ready for an official announcement later this summer, at least according to a report from the US Official Xbox Magazine, via the NeoGAF forums.

The report claims that Rockstar is finally ready to confirm the existence of the new Grand Theft Auto V to the world in the following months.

The obvious place for such an announcement might be the upcoming Gamescom convention in Cologne, Germany, but Rockstar hasn't confirmed that it will be attending the festivity.

Given the worldwide appeal of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, the company doesn't even need to make the announcement at a large conference, as it can always make it through its official webpage, previewed by a teaser of some sort.

As of yet, however, this is still speculation, and Rockstar is still working hard on two already announced project, L.A. Noire for the PC, later this year, and Max Payne 3, in 2012, so GTA V is quite far away.

Expect more details in the following months from the popular games developer and publisher about the GTA franchise.
