Kirstie Alley is currently starring in her own reality show, one that will supposedly cover the gap between a set of “before” and “after” pictures by documenting her road to weight loss and a healthier self. Aside from launching and following a diet program she helped create, the actress is also working out more – and it will all work to end the lies she’s been telling herself for the past year or so.

Speaking with the latest issue of Ladies’ Home Journal, Kirstie says no one but an overweight person can imagine the kind of lies one is telling oneself about one’s weight. Since she had no one around her with the heart to tell her the truth bluntly, no matter how much it would have hurt her to hear it, she kept deceiving herself about her weight. Thus, she got to where she is now, a point where a change needs to be made.

Luckily, she also realized she was the first who had to be honest to herself, if she wanted others to follow suit. “When we get fat, we fool ourselves with every kind of lie imaginable. By 2008 my weight started creeping up and I said, ‘Oh, I still look good at 150. I still look good at 155. I still look okay at 165. Some of my clothes still fit at 175.’ And nobody was saying ‘You’re fat.’ I was like a bank robber who was getting away with it,” Alley explains for the magazine.

Another thing that worked against her all this time was the fact that she had discovered eating was her (more or less) guilty pleasure and she had fun while the pounds were piling on. “On one hand it was the greatest thing in the world getting fat. Every meal out was an event. Or we’d go to Italy and we’d have pasta, truffles and dessert and then plan the next incredible meal. It was a happy-go-lucky time. I never had so much fun,” she adds for the same publication.

Of course, she didn’t have a love life, but she doesn’t expect that to change once she loses the extra weight either. A happy mother, a busy professional and an animal lover, Kirstie Alley has her hands full at the moment on a personal level, she says. The only thing that needs altering is her weight – and she’s working on that.
