Gears of War 3 is getting ready to receive its third piece of downloadable content next week, in the form of the RAAM’s Shadow expansion, which introduces not just new multiplayer content but also a single-player campaign.

Gears of War 3 was definitely one of the biggest installments in the series made by Epic Games, so the studio wants to increase its value even more by deploying lots of DLC for the game, including the special Horde Command add-on be released last month, as well as the free Versus Booster map pack.

Now, the studio is getting ready to deploy RAAM’s Shadow, the first single-player DLC for Gears of War 3, which takes a trip to the past of the series, before the events from the first Gears of War game.

We already know a bit about the content of the upcoming expansion, like a three hour story campaign, new multiplayer characters or weapons and, of course, new achievements, but G4TV has now ran a special about the RAAM’s Shadow.

In it, the game’s executive producer, Rod Fergusson, talks about the DLC and how it wasn’t even planned, at first, to allow players to step into the shoes of General RAAM, the evil Locust general that players had to take down in Gears of War 1.

Fortunately, the idea quickly evolved and players will be able to control not just fan favorite Gears of War heroes, like lieutenant Kim or Tai Kaliso, but also the infamous General, who can use his deadly Krill Shield, as well as some of his underlings, which are all presented in the video below.

The single-player component of RAAM’s Shadow will focus on the Locust invasion of the planet Sera after the events of Emergence Day, with RAAM leading the assault, while Zeta Squad, composed of the characters mentioned above, need to evacuate Ilima city and protect its citizens.

Gears of War 3 gets the RAAM’s Shadow DLC next week, on December 13, exclusively for the Xbox 360. Until then, check out the video above for a glimpse at the expansion.
