First trailer for “Green Lantern” with Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively is out

Ryan Reynolds, an actor who has proved his worth in various roles from different genres, is Green Lantern, the latest superhero to arrive on the silver screen. The first official trailer for the film has been released.

“Green Lantern” is scheduled for theatrical release on June 17 and tells the story of Hal Jordan, the only human ever to be asked by an intergalactic army of warriors, the Green Lantern Corps, to become a Green Lantern.

The film also stars Blake Lively from Gossip Girl as Hal’s love interest and, based on what fans and moviegoers in general are saying in response to the trailer, she was a very bad choice.

In fact, as much as audiences love Ryan Reynolds, they do seem to have a lot to object about the new trailer: for starters, it takes too light an approach to the original material; then, the script has tampered with the source story; and, last but not least, Lively doesn’t belong in it.

Even self-professed fans of the actor can’t but notice the amount of time he gets on camera without a shirt – and in the trailer, no less.

Reynolds is now an actor who needn’t be exploited this way because he can carry a part without having to take his shirt off and flex his muscles for the cameras, voices on the blogosphere are saying.

“On the upside, for all the talk of the Green Lantern’s getup, there sure seems be a lot of Ryan’s Hal Jordan running around scantily clad. On the downside, Blake Lively plays his love interest, aviation expert Carol Ferris. No, really,” E! Online says.

The e-zine even goes as far as to predict that, if the final film is anything like the trailer, “Iron Man,” “Dark Knight” and any other superhero movie have nothing to fear in terms of competition.

Of course, not everything is as bad as it seems: the special effects, for instance, are clearly good and the trailer more than shows them off. Mark Strong’s Sinestro is an excellent example in this sense.

At this point in time, opinions on the first “Green Lantern” trailer remain divided, with the scales tipping towards the negative impressions. Below is the trailer – watch it and judge for yourself.
