Video game publisher Square Enix has said that Final Fantasy XIII-2, the newest installment in its biggest Japanese role playing game series, is about 90 percent done and that it plans to reveal the launch date for the title during the upcoming Tokyo Games Show press conference.

Yoshinori Kitase, who is a producer working on Final Fantasy XIII-2, has spoke at a fan event and revealed that the development team was making quick progress and that the experience was pretty much complete.

Motumu Toriyama, who is the director working on the title, has said that the main plot for Final Fantasy XIII-2 will be a little bit shorter than that of the previous game in the franchise and that there will be much more side content to keep players occupied.

A Public Relations representative also stopped Yoshinori Kitase from speaking about possible downloadable content for the game but it seems that the team is already working on it.

The developers have also hinted that those who have kept their save files from Final Fantasy XIII will be able to import them and get some in-game bonuses and that a Special Edition will be announced with a number of bonuses for dedicated fans.

Square Enix has already confirmed that it plans to launch Final Fantasy XIII-2 during 2011 in at least one territory, probably Japan.

The developers have also acknowledged that the player base had a number of issues with the previous game in the series and have taken fan feedback into account when creating the new experience.

The story of Final Fantasy XIII-2 will see main character Lightning disappear into a new, previously unseen world with her sister, Serah Farron, and Noel Kreiss attempting to find her.

Square Enix really needs its new Final Fantasy title to perform well on launch in order to restore interest in the franchise, which has been affected by problem with the Final Fantasy XIV MMO.
