Apart from the first two packs

There's no doubt that Modern Warfare 2 will be one of the biggest videogame launches of this fall and Activision is working hard to hype up the title while also creating a community around the game able to sustain it on the long term.

And part of this public outreach effort is to make sure players know that their ideas will be taken into account when Modern Warfare 2 gets more content after the official release, on November 10.

Robert Bowling is the community manager at Infinity Ward and recently stated that “As far as DLC goes, we love it and plan to support Modern Warfare 2 heavily with post-launch support. We've confirmed we'll be doing at least two map packs which were announced at E3 as a timed exclusive for the Xbox 360. The fact that we confirmed at least two map packs doesn't mean there won't be more; honestly we plan on shaping our DLC based on community feedback from the full game, and the first two DLC map packs. Therefore, the community will really determine what comes after that.”

Activision and Infinity Ward are making a showing of their reliance on the community mostly because they need it badly. There are a lot of people still playing multiplayer matches of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, mainly because they have been listened to. The advantages fall on either side: players get the modifications that they want, while developers get to see their game played for a long time, with publishers seeing more money from sales.

Activision confirmed that the initial rounds of DLC would be arriving exclusively for the Xbox 360, likely because Microsoft is keen to get as many people playing the game on their device as possible. It remains to be seen whether the other new content will be multiplatform.
