Electronic Arts plans to turn you into a doctor with the release of its newest casual title, Operation Mania, a game which will challenge you to treat and cure the strangest patients suffering from the zaniest diseases (such as butterflies in the stomach or frog in the throat). The game will be available to be purchased online from EA's casual game site, Pogo, starting this August in America and in the UK, while a retail version is expected to hit game stands in September this year, costing $19.95.

The player will take the role of doctor Humerus, an up and coming surgeon which will save lives in no less than five hospitals, each in its own location and probably having specific ailments. The title, based on Hasbro's Operation board game, will take you on a race against the clock to perform surgeries and save lives while playing lots of funny mini-games.

Pogo General Manager Andrew Pedersen said, "We are delighted to bring Hasbro's Operation to the digital medium for the first time ever. Our goal was to stay true to a game loved by so many while giving it its own unique heart beat. By blending the urgency of time management with fun Operation micro-games inspired by the board game, we're giving people a new way to play and enjoy a timeless classic".

Doctor wannabes should know that the five hospitals they'll cure patients in will challenge them with 35 levels which can be played in two game modes: the classic Story mode or the Marathon Mode, which is a race against time to cure as many patients as possible.

The game also comes with a tiny bit of micro-management since you will be allowed to upgrade your hospital by buying equipment, deploying faster services and hiring staff. Of course, multiplayer modes are possible too, so you and your family can become expert surgeons thanks to EA's Operation Mania.
