A new casual game promises to bring something innovative to the genre

Pi Eye Games has decided to offer fans of the casual genre an alternative to the classic "serve a cake, sell an ice cream" type of games we have been getting ever since the online portals were launched, and we're glad they made such a decision. System Mania is the result of their development process and it is already available for purchase on the official website.

According to Pi Eye Games, System Mania is a unique time management (aka casual) game in which players help the main character, Fiona, to build her own business. If things sound very familiar, don't worry, the "new" factor comes into play as soon as you hear what Fiona's job is: she's a techie!

This means that we'll get no less than 90 levels which will challenge us to master all sorts of crazy controls and keep zany machines running smoothly. We'll have to learn how to operate strange things like cranks, pull cords, guitar strings, egg timers, gear sticks and even a TV game system complete with its own joystick! Sounds like fun, for a couple of hours, just like it happens with any other game. However, the developers promise we'll get a bit of "something else" while playing, such as collectible coins, all sorts of awards for excellence and even unexpected events which will create surprising twists.

And, hearing that, I can't help but wonder: are casual games slowly starting to become less profitable or casual gamers are becoming pickier? Until now, all we got from developers was the same game, cloned and distributed with another title, over and over again. But it appears that more games that try to bring innovations to the genre are under development (like Saqqarah, for example). However, as long as the industry keeps going and things look good for us, everything is fine.

Now, back to System Mania. Being priced at $19.95 is not important because if you purchase it from the Pi Eye Games website, you'll be able to download for free another game from their listings - and free goodies are always welcome, right?
