The Wii U home console from Nintendo has been one of the big launches seen at this year's E3 and it seems that only now do video game publishers have the time needed to play around with prototypes of the platform and seen what kind of gaming experiences they can craft on it.

John Riccitiello, who is the chief executive officer at Electronic Arts, has spoken to Industry Gamer and said, “It’s a high definition platform and I love the controller. I just think it’s cool. You’re a gamer – so you’ve got the screen here and you’ve got the screen there and you’ve got full control. Personally, while there’s some great experiences on Move, and there’s some great experiences on Kinect, I’m not a motion control guy.”

He added, “So I still like my swizzle sticks and my shoulder buttons and my Xs and Os, etc. But there is something about having that second screen that transcends anything I’ve ever done before.”

Riccitiello has offered a few examples about how the second screen can be used saying that the Madden NFL game might allow gamers to draw pass patterns on it while in first-person shooters it could be used to call in support powers.

Electronic Arts has not announced clear plans for its games linked to the Wii U, but there's still plenty of time for the developers and the publishers to see what kind of experiences they can create.

At the moment, Nintendo is finalizing the hardware characteristics of the Wii U and is preparing the manufacturing facilities which will produce the home console.

The company has not announced when the new gaming platform might be launched or how much it will cost, but analysts are betting on seeing it on store shelves during the summer of this year with a price that is close to the launch price for the original Wii.
