The Nintendo Wii U is going to sell a lot of copies largely because of its unique controller that will motivate people, gamers and non-gamers, to try it out and see how it transforms even the most regular gaming experiences.

The Nintendo Wii U surprised quite a lot of people when it was announced by the Japanese company at last month's E3 2011, not just through its high-definition capabilities but also through its innovative controller.

Since then, we've heard a lot of details about the device from all sorts of company executives, who highlighted the most important features so that gamers can get used to it before its release next year.

Speaking with Forbes, Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime touched on the subject of sales and how he expects the Wii U to follow in the very successful footsteps of its predecessor, the record-breaking Wii, largely because of its unique controller.

"What we are doing with Wii U is creating an ability for games to leverage two different screens; the big screen in your room, and the smaller handheld screen in front of you. By doing so it opens up all of these different experiences," he said.

The Wii U controller has all the basic buttons that you'd find on a regular device, but also a touchscreen that can display the actual gameplay, or just portions of it, and even employ the touch capability to control parts of the game alongside the buttons.

"The experience I use to describe it to someone is to imagine a first person shooter, where instead of constantly having to look at the screen, now I've got things happening all around me. It's a great experience. I don't think it's going to be a hard sell. I think that communicating to consumers through the magic of the second window, you can have a totally unique experience, with another player still in the room... I don't think it's a difficult sell," added Fils-Aime.

The Nintendo Wii U, alongside its own controller, will be out in the first half of 2012 around the world.
