Yesterday, Nintendo had its E3 presentation and amongst stories of new Mario games, including a Super Mario Galaxy 2 announcement, and fresh Metroid releases, the Japanese publisher also announced its plans to release a sequel to Endless Ocean, the exploration game that invited players to dive into the water and see the sights that it has to offer.

The new title is set to be released in the first quarter of 2010 and will support both single player and co operative play through the Wi-Fi connection. Development duties are being handled by Arika.

The basic concept of the videogame is the same. Players need to explore the oceans and seas of the world in order to find and then watch fish and other sea creatures that are specific to each of the zones explored. They can also find some items on the bottom of the sea, which can be sold for cash so that the player has the resources he/she needs to create a reef, which will attract wild life, and populate an aquarium on land.

What will change in Endless Ocean 2 will be the amount of sea life that can be discovered and then watched. Gamers will now have an option to heal some of the wounded creatures they find in the sea to improve the overall quality of the ecosystem. Players can also get friendly with a dolphin and take it along on dives for some extra options. The dolphin is especially interesting to have around if you get attacked by sharks.

Endless Ocean 2 will also feature a story mode, following Oceana, a young woman who tries to investigate Dragon's Song, a mystery that her father was investigating as he disappeared. Multiplayer is possible, as two friends are able to dive together and coordinate their actions by using Wii Speak to talk to one another.
