In order to measure your stress

Nintendo is one of the biggest companies currently active in the gaming industry and one of the most successful, seeing that the Nintendo Wii and DS consoles alongside great franchises like Mario and Zelda are selling quite well.

The Japanese company has always taken great pride in thinking outside the box, and thus creating unique experiences, but now, it seems that Nintendo has really taken the proverbial cake in terms of strangeness, as it announced during its E3 conference the Wii Vitality Sensor.

The finger-mounted sensor that will plug into the Wii remote is designed to measure the players’ heart rate, just like the sensors found in hospitals, along with “a number of other signals being transmitted by their bodies, and will then provide information to the users about the body's inner world.”

This will make people ask themselves, according to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, “How nervous am I? How focused am I on remembering my script?” He went on to say that “these things are normally invisible.” Thanks to the new Wii Vitality Sensor, you will “see the information relating to the inner world of your body.” Even though it will let people in on how stressed out they are or how their inner body is working, Iwata revealed that “everyone under pressure in our stressful society could use this as a way to relax.”

No information on the date it will be available, or what games will appear supporting this new peripheral, but Nintendo is certain to announce some details before the end of E3. Overall, the concept is quite innovative and will definitely broaden the Japanese company’s fanbase.
