Command & Conquer is a solid, fast multiplayer experience

The first day at E3 is traditionally defined by the initial crush of the crowd that surges towards the two major exhibition halls as soon as the doors are opened.

It was no different this year, but I was not part of the long queues and the initial stampede because I was safely hidden away in a small meeting room looking at the upcoming titles from Daedalic.

The team best known for the Deponia series is planning to deliver a third game in the franchise, which features a cloned main character and more puzzles, while also introducing new titles like 1953: Escape from Alcatraz and Memoria.

Daedalic is also looking to expand its portfolio, showing off Blackguards, a party and turn-based role-playing title that's also set to launch before the end of the year.

I then took a detour to the Electronic Arts stand, where I first got some hands-on time with the new Need for Speed: Rivals, which is a solid racer that brings back the excitement of contests between racers and caps.

For a shift of pace, I then engaged in a multiplayer match, sadly resulting in a loss, in Command & Conquer.

The new title from Victory Games is looking very solid at the moment and uses all the core mechanics of the strategy classic under a fee-to-play model.

I also managed to get a look at Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare, which is weird enough to elicit laughs and smiles from a room filled with jaded industry veterans and journalists.

I ended my day with AMD, a company that is determined to continue delivering processing and graphics solutions for PC and consoles that offer more power for future game releases.

Tomorrow is another packed day, with eight hours filled with meetings and some extra time to wander on the floor and watch the crowd and the stands.
