Victory Games is ready to reinvent real-time strategy

I was defeated in the new Command & Conquer and still liked the game experience that the team at Victory Games created, a solid real-time strategy that uses all the core ideas of the long-running series.

The new Command & Conquer is a free-to-play experience set to launch before the end of 2013 and at E3 2013, I was able to get into a multiplayer match against another fan using one of the six generals that were available for testing.

I chose Mercury, who specializes in fast armored assaults and hails from the European Union and was paired against a rocket-focused general from the new Asia pacific faction.

The new Command & Conquer is pretty classic when it comes to core mechanics, featuring base building and resources gathering, elements that have all but vanished from other titles in the genre.

I tried an early rush which failed because I did not manage my general’s special ability and then tried to box in my enemy and deny him access to resources but he managed to push me away from his base using armor that my infantry couldn't defeat.

After a while, he pushed ahead with Overlord tanks and I was unable to come up with a mix of units that could stop his force before it took out my base of operations.

The new Command & Conquer from Victory Games is powered by Frostbite 3 and the graphics quality is easy to see when it comes to the unit detail and the overall smoothness of the gameplay.

It will be interesting to see whether the new title can recapture some of the old fans of the real-time strategy classic while also drawing in new players with its free-to-play structure and impressive looks.

Before Command & Conquer is out, players will get access to a beta stage during the summer.
