With her comeback on hold indefinitely, things are looking up again for British songbird Amy Winehouse, as producers for the next James Bond film are again considering her for the theme song. Unfortunately, hers is not the only name that’s being tossed around, as ContactMusic reports Duffy is also a strong contender in the race.

It’s a known fact that whoever gets to record the Bond theme is set for at least a year, both in terms of profit and of appreciation from the public. Because Winehouse was supposed to do the track for the last film as well, “Quantum of Solace,” an honor that ultimately went to Alicia Keys, producers are thinking of giving her another chance, granted she cleans up her act in the meanwhile.

However, the race is tight, since producers are reportedly also considering Welsh singer Duffy who, aside from an impressive voice, is also more reliable than addiction-plagued Winehouse, the same source reveals. “Now Winehouse could be given a chance to make up for the missed opportunity as producers begin to contemplate the soundtrack for the 23rd installment of the secret agent franchise. But the ‘Rehab’ hitmaker will face stiff competition from Welsh star Duffy, if producer Michael G Wilson has his way. Wilson says, ‘I would love to get Duffy to sing the next tune. I think she is wonderful. Amy Winehouse would be good too’.” ContactMusic writes.

As fans must know, it’s been long that Winehouse’s career went into a standstill, mostly because of her heavily documented issues with drugs and alcohol, which reached a terrible climax when she met and married Blake Fielder-Civil. Even now that she’s separated from him, the singer still has major problems that prevent her from making the kind of comeback her fans deserve, and the clearest indication of that is the recent disastrous performance she gave at the St. Lucia Jazz Music Festival, where she was barely able to stand and had to be booed off stage by fans.

Amy Winehouse also canceled her comeback concert in London, which was supposed to take place at the end of the month, after being hospitalized for “dehydration.” Given that she’s so unpredictable and seems to have no problem with not meeting deadlines, Duffy seems the safest bet at this point, several other music-oriented publications say.
