Singer collapses in tears, as fans show they no longer have any patience with her

British songbird Amy Winehouse has long been battling an alcohol and drug problem, and her stay in St Lucia seems to have had little effect on her in the sense of bringing an improvement. Over the weekend, Winehouse got up on stage at the St Lucia Jazz Festival, but was quickly booed away as fans saw she was too intoxicated to remember the lyrics, or stand tall for that matter, as a BANG Showbiz report says.

Amy has been spending plenty of time in St Lucia, presumably because it represents a break from the London party scene and the many friends she has there, and who are rarely a good influence on her determination to stay clean off drugs and alcohol. With all that, the singer was presumably too nervous to be performing again after such a lengthy pause, which may have prompted her to hit the bottle to calm her nerves, eyewitnesses tell the aforementioned news agency.

In fact, Amy hit the bottle so hard she was hardly able to stand, and even forgot the lyrics to her own songs a couple of times. Frustrated fans started to boo and jeer her to such an extent that she left the stage in tears, speechless. “Amy could barely stand up, she didn’t know the words to her songs. It’s a disgrace. She was so drunk she didn’t know where she was. She’s a lost cause.” one fan who was at the concert tells the media.

“Amy, 25, played for just 45 minutes and the final track she attempted to sing ‘Valerie’ was finished by her band without her. Sources claim the main reason behind her binge drinking is the hurt she is still feeling following her split from estranged husband Blake Fielder-Civil, who is allegedly expecting a baby with another woman.” BANG further says, with sources confirming this theory by saying that Amy could be seen drinking for hours in a row before the concert began.

Winehouse’s publicist, though, says there’s no truth to rumors of binge drinking, and certainly not to those saying she was not able to complete the gig as scheduled. It was the rain that made it impossible for her to perform, the rep says, although he fails to mention why the crowd started to boo if that were really the case. “Amy would like to express her disappointment that weather forced the abandonment of her show at the St. Lucia Jazz Festival. The set started well, but as the heavens opened, a number of technical difficulties occurred on stage, culminating with the lighting rig failing for two songs. In addition, rain began to flood the technical wings at the side of the stage which caused sound problems. Amy and the band tried to soldier on but the set had to be cut short.” the official statement from camp Winehouse reads.
