Amy Winehouse will not headline London music festival, puts comeback on hold indefinitely

Multi-Grammy winner Amy Winehouse has just announced that she will not be performing at an upcoming music festival on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of her record label, Island Records, The Sun reveals. Although Winehouse was confirmed for a comeback, following her disastrous performance at the St Lucia Jazz Music Festival, it seems getting up on stage and singing the tracks that made her famous is too painful an experience, rumor has it.

According to spies who have spoken with the British tabloid, Amy pulled out of the much expected performance because she had realized she simply couldn’t go back up on stage and sing the same songs she used to sing once, in totally different circumstances. Her old hits cause her too much pain and bring back too many memories, and that is a chapter of her life she wishes to forget, insiders reveal. The official line, though, says nothing of this, as neither does it make any mention to an alleged spiraling alcohol addiction that has taken over Winehouse’s life altogether.

“Amy and her band will no longer be performing at the Shepherd’s Bush Empire on May 31. Amy would like to apologize to her fans who bought tickets for the shows.” a statement from Amy’s camp reads. Fans who have already bought their tickets can rest assured they will get a full refund at the point of purchase, the same statement continues, as cited by The Sun. However, even though the announcement says nothing of the singer allegedly having a hard time kicking her alcohol addiction and facing her “demons,” rumor has it that this is precisely why she has called off the comeback.

“Amy is regretful about having to do this but she needs to close this chapter and start a new one. Singing the songs she sang in St Lucia has brought back too many painful memories. She just can’t face it. Amy is really upset about missing the dates as Island have been so good to her. Amy understands a lot of people will be disappointed.” another source reveals. At the same time, being back in hospital – this time after complaining of chest pains and for dehydration – has not helped her image one bit, with several sources telling the media that she’s “drinking like a lunatic” and is out of control.

It is a known fact that Amy Winehouse has long battled addictions: she initially had an alcohol problem, at the beginning of her career, which resulted in the immensely successful “Rehab” album, and then succumbed to heavy drug use, presumably after meeting her soon-to-be-ex Blake Fielder-Civil. Rumor now has it that the singer has sunk back in her alcohol abuse.
