14 DAY TRIAL // A new theme available for download free of charge from Microsoft is designed to celebrate India. Windows 7 users can now grab the “Colors of India” theme pack from the Windows Personalization Gallery and enjoy some colorful imagery from the largest Asian country. However, customers should not expect to see some of the landscapes traditionally associated with India, such as the Taj Mahal. This is not the case.
The Colors of India focuses instead on glimpses of color from around the country, with subtle inferences, and nuances, rather than on any easily recognizable Hindu elements. Fact is that the theme does promise to deliver color to Windows 7 desktops, and that just what users are going to get, nothing more, nothing less. At the bottom of this article users will be able to find previews of the wallpapers included in the theme in order to get a taste ahead of downloading the real thing.
Of course, as it is the case with additional theme packs, the files are tailored specifically to Windows 7. However, Windows 7 themes act similarly to archives, which means that their content can be accessed using nothing more than an archiver. In this regard, all the background images packaged by Microsoft in the Colors of India theme can be easily extracted and used individually in any operating system, including Windows Vista and Windows XP.
Microsoft has released a number of new themes this summer, the latest of which involving new content from NASA as well as a nature-based theme pack with imagery featuring wolves. There was also a new Bing theme celebrating the removal of the Beta tag from the company’s Japanese flavor of its search/decision engine. Of course, there is additional content available for download, and the software giant is continually refreshing the themes available, adding new downloads.
