They say this is the first time that Disney is specifically targeting young female gamers, releasing two titles featuring well-known princesses from the company's franchises. Princesses will include Ariel (the mermaid), Cinderella (the one with the glass shoes) and Snow White (the one that choked on the apple).

Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey has been developed by Papaya Studio for the Wii, PlayStation 2 and PC, and as NextGeneration reports, gamers will play as their own customized heroine, having a tough task on their shoulders: restoring order to kingdoms wreaked with peril.

For example, specifically for the DS installment of Disney Princess, Disney Princess: Magical Jewels, players will assume the roles of their favorite Disney Princess, in order to "recover magical jewels and replenish the power of a kingdom," the same site posts.

"Based on a brand that girls and parents already know and trust, the Disney Princess video games are designed with young girls in mind through accessible, challenging and fun game play," said Jessica Oifer, senior brand manager for Disney Interactive Studios. OK, if I were a developer and I was told to make a girlie game having young girls in mind... that just wouldn't work. That's why I'm not a game developer.

"We know that Disney Princess could be a young girl's first entry into videogames. We embrace the simplicity required by this age group while providing a challenging and rewarding experience set in beautiful Princess worlds. Not only are the games fun, they also introduce players to the positive attributes that make a true princess: courage, friendship, trust and the joy of discovery," she added.

Papaya Studio's Disney Princess: Enchanted Journey is scheduled for a fall release, while Disney Princess: Magical Jewels, handled by 1st Playable Productions, will be rolled out in the same period. Girl gamers are finally getting something to enjoy. Don't get me wrong, I'm just talking about little girls... and celebrities.
