The game needs to deliver quality when it is launched

The developement team at Blizzard working on Diablo III has announced that they have made a number of significant changes to the game and that might mean that it will see yet another delay, pushing it back to late 2012 or even further into the future, but one leading developer working on the game believes that this does not actually matter to the fans.

Jay Wilson, who is the leading developer working on Diablo III, has said in a blog post that, “While working on Diablo III we’ve been called out for messing around with systems too much, that the game is good as-is and we should just release it.”

He added, “I think that’s a fair argument to make, but I also think it’s incorrect. Our job isn’t just to put out a game, it’s to release the next Diablo game. No one will remember if the game is late, only if it’s great. We trust in our ability to put out a great game, but we’re not quite there yet. In addition to finishing and polishing the content of the game we’re continuing to iterate on some of the core game systems.”

Blizzard has a policy of not setting launch dates for its games, always saying that they will be under development until they are the best they can be on launch day.

The fan base for Diablo III was pretty convinced that the game would be out before the summer of this year, with Blizzard offering quite a bit of information on the game mechanics, the characters and the story.

The most recent changes are linked to some of the core game mechanics, like the way character attributes and skills work, and those who are taking part in the closed beta stage of Diablo III will be able to offer feedback on them in the coming months.
