PS3 or Xbox 360 owners might not get Diablo III after all

Blizzard has released a new statement about the possibility of seeing Diablo III on consoles, saying that it’s still not officially in development, thus denying a reveal from earlier this week.

Blizzard is a studio that always likes to take its time when it comes to games that are awaited by millions of fans. Such is the case with Diablo III, as the role playing dungeon crawler has been in development for quite a few years, on platforms like the PC or Mac.

Earlier this week, however, it looked like Blizzard finally acknowledged that it was actively working on bringing Diablo III to consoles like the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360. This was due to a community manager who confirmed through Twitter that Diablo III’s console team is led by Josh Mosqueira.

Blizzard has now released a statement about this subject, saying that the words of its community manager, ‘Bashiok’, were just a confirmation that the studio was actively exploring the possibility of bringing the game to consoles.

"Bashiok's response on Twitter was intended as a confirmation that we're actively exploring the possibility of developing a console version of Diablo III, as we've mentioned in the past,” the studio told Industry Gamers.

As such, console owners shouldn’t necessarily await the release of Diablo III for their platforms anytime soon.

"This is not a confirmation that Diablo III is coming to any console platform. Our focus right now is on finishing the PC/Mac version of Diablo III and making sure it's a worthwhile successor to the Diablo series."

Blizzard previously talked about Diablo III on consoles on multiple occasions, saying that, if it was actually going to make such a thing, the experience would be custom built for such platforms, instead of just being ported from the PC or Mac to the PS3 or Xbox 360.

As of yet, however, Diablo III doesn’t even have a concrete release date for the PC or Mac, so console owners are in for a much longer wait, if the game even appears for their platforms.
