The around-the-clock-busy blood-spatter analyst Dexter from Showtime’s winner series, “Dexter,” whose season 4 has just recently premiered, has yet many obstacles to overcome before the season is over. One of them is, it seems, dealing with his wife Rita (Julie Benz) and solving the problems in their marriage before it ends with a divorce, E! Online reveals.

According to the source, Roma Maffia of “Nip/Tuck” has just shot a small role for the show, but chances are that her character will become more of a fixture in the upcoming episodes. Nothing is confirmed at the time, but all things tend to point into a rather unwanted direction for Dexter (played by Michael C. Hall), as Rita is thinking about divorce when he’s already having serious issues with doing his job, being a father and a family man and, at the same time, keeping his nightly exploits a secret from the entire world.

“Suburbia is not sitting well with our favorite sleep-deprived serial killer. We chatted with Nip/Tuck’s Roma Maffia this morning, and the actress spilled some surprising casting scoop with us: ‘I just did a role that could be a recurring character on Dexter.’ Roma was tight-lipped about her upcoming stint on the Showtime hit and only gave in slightly when we begged and pleaded to know the deets: ‘It’s Dexter plus one. I think it’s a surprising turn.’” E! writes as to what fans may expect next from Showtime’s hit series.

“Turns out the plus one is wifey Rita (Julie Benz). ‘Roma’s role is a marriage counselor/couples therapist who’s helping Dexter and Rita adjust to their new suburban family life,’ confirms the show rep. Let’s play a guessing game: Since both the rep and Roma were unable to comment on the ‘recurring’ status of Roma’s character, we’re betting Dexter and Rita are in for a potentially rough road ahead and that this therapy biz may be an ongoing thing. Between the Trinity Killer, fatherhood and, oh yeah, that Dark Passenger, Dex is long overdue for a shrink sesh.” the same e-zine further says of the recently emerged bit of information on the new character.

What with the new twist in the story, it certainly looks like “Dexter” stands good chances of improving its record (to date) audience. As we also reported just a short while ago, the season-4 premiere marked a new high for both the series and the network, with 1.5 million viewers tuning in to see Dexter adjusting to family life and fatherhood.
