Singer sizzles in new photospread, sparkles in interview

Adam Lambert is a gorgeous man and, even more important, he’s not afraid to shock if that is what it takes to get people to notice him and then listen to his music. However, as the latest spread for Details Magazine shows, Lambert is also a man who doesn’t like to play hide and seek about who he is as a person and public figure: he’s an entertainer and, as such, he works to create a fantasy that he can later sell to the public.

It could very well be argued that, in doing so, Lambert becomes a showman par excellence, and it probably wouldn’t be that far-fetched if it were. This would also explain why he, a man who has openly spoken out about his preferences (including a “coming out” cover with Rolling Stone magazine), has so many female fans who don’t hesitate to throw their brassieres and other items on stage at him. It would also explain why he’s featured in the Details photospread with a girl who wears nothing but nail polish – matching his, of course.

However, Lambert doesn’t hide the fact that what he’s selling with the promo work he does (this, of course, excludes his music) is fantasy. He has built himself up to be who he is now, but it was only possible for him to do so with the help of the fans who voted for him on American Idol. “There’s a feeling of entitlement [with the fans] because they voted to get us where we are. But you know what? I am responsible for what I created on the show – you voted for what I created, and thank you, but I created it, you didn’t.” Adam tells Details.

As the magazine points out, Adam knows how to sell himself and he’s been doing so ever since he was still a contestant on Idol. He never comes across as a fake, though, and that’s because he never pretends to be more than he is. “It’s all fantasy – that’s what entertainment is. I’m here to entertain you.” Adam himself adds. If audiences love him – and women in particular – not for who he is, but despite it, then even better because, for Adam, it means he’s doing his job. The last thing this singer would want, though, would be to have everything about him taken out of context and twisted to look like something else.

Because Lambert offers no apologies for who he is – and he probably never will. “I have no problem telling people, ‘You know what? I’m not your babysitter, and I’m not your church.’ They go, ‘Jesus loves you, too.’ One time I just blurted out, ‘I’m Jewish, okay? I don’t need another crucifix! This is not an appropriate gift for me!’ I know people are coming from a good place, but it can be offensive. Like, ‘Thank you, I’m not Christian! I don’t read that book.’” he tells Details.
