14 DAY TRIAL // It’s been almost two weeks now since word broke in the media that legendary Hollywood actor Dennis Hopper had only a few days left to live, having lost a decade-long battle with prostate cancer. Amidst reports that the star was at his home, heavily medicated and literally giving up on life, he’s just been spotted around Los Angeles, as People magazine can confirm.
Though more details on the actor’s condition are not available at this point in time, there’s a good reason why they say a picture is worth a thousand words. Equipped with a photo camera and surrounded by his entourage, Hopper seemed fine, though thinner than before and somewhat frailer. He smiles at the camera and it seems very genuine, which is more than enough to contradict earlier reports that he was “ready to die” and could barely talk, being sedated most of the time.
“Gaunt but smiling, Dennis Hopper, who is fighting prostate cancer while in the midst of a divorce from wife Victoria, was seen walking to lunch Friday near his compound in LA’s Venice neighborhood,” People writes. The photo, snapped by paps from paparazzi agency Splash, seems to corroborate the story that, by all means, Hopper might be frailer but he’s certainly not dying.
As strange as it may sound, it wasn’t only the fact that the actor was losing the battle with cancer that grabbed headlines these past two weeks. Shortly after the rumor broke, another report got out, namely that Hopper had filed for divorce from his wife of 14 years, Victoria Hopper. The two had been married for 14 and together for the past 18 years so a divorce from the deathbed, as the US media labeled the procedures, was a very unexpected move.
Later on, it was suggested that the one behind the divorce was the actor’s eldest daughter, Marin, who was trying to keep Victoria out of the will so that she left the marriage with only what was stipulated in her prenup. “As Dennis Hopper is dying from cancer, a family confidant tells Huffington Post that his eldest daughter Marin is engineering a deathbed divorce and sending lies out to the media to try to bleed extra millions out of his sizable estate. Hopper, who reportedly only has weeks to live, is currently heavily medicated at his Venice compound.
