14 DAY TRIAL // Dennis and Victoria Hopper have been together for the past 18 years and married for 14. Though she is the actor’s fifth wife, who is now reportedly dying from the cancer, he’s been battling for over a decade, she was always believed to be the true love of his life. Over the weekend, the actor filed for divorce, presumably from his deathbed – but that’s only because his eldest daughter, Marin, has been pushing him to do it, the Huffington Post has learned.
Word emerged over the weekend that the reason why Hopper would seek a divorce precisely when doctors told him that he only had a few weeks to live is because he wanted to have Victoria out of his will. That is to say, if he divorces her before passing, she only gets an amount stipulated in the prenup and not a share of his considerable estate. The Post now argues that, as Hopper is heavily sedated, this idea did not occur to him but is being put into action by his daughter Marin.
“As Dennis Hopper is dying from cancer, a family confidant tells Huffington Post that his eldest daughter Marin is engineering a deathbed divorce and sending lies out to the media to try to bleed extra millions out of his sizable estate. Hopper, who reportedly only has weeks to live, is currently heavily medicated at his Venice compound. Despite reports, the friend says he is not at the hospital,” the Post writes.
Not only is Marin behind the entire divorce thing, but she’s also doing it without her father even being aware of what exactly is going on. “It's so horrible, Dennis is at home, Victoria and Galen are living there as well, and Marin is pulling her father out of his bed and driving him to the divorce lawyers. The poor guy has no idea what is going on. Even his lawyers are telling people he is on painkillers and is essentially sleeping all the time,” an unnamed but reportedly very reliable source spills for the Post.
In fact, this theory that someone else had come up with the idea of Hopper getting a divorce right now has been circulating for almost a week now. Back when we informed you that divorce papers had been filed, sources were already telling the media that Mr. Hopper was under heavy sedation, which meant someone else was handling this issue for him.
