Computer maker Dell started to sell the unlocked version of its Dell Streak tablet PC in the United States via its online store, offering it at the same price tag as the version available with no contract agreement via wireless carrier AT&T in the country.

Unfortunately, it appears that Dell did not operate modifications to the specifications list of the device, and there are no details available on whether the slate would offer support for T-Mobile's 3G networks too, or not.

However, we should note that, according to Dell, the unlocked Streak tablet PC should start shipping to users starting with 12/8/2010.

"[...] we're now selling an unlocked version of the Dell Streak with Froyo (Android 2.2) to for $579 to customers in the United States via Dell.com," the company announced. However, Dell's website lists the device at $549.

Moreover, since Dell unveiled plans to update all US devices to Android 2.2 starting with early December, it would make sense for it to ship the Streak with this platform version on board right from the start.

According to Dell, the Streak units being sold via Best Buy are set to receive the Android 2.2 software update come December 3rd.

At the same time, the company announced the availability of two new colors for the slate, namely New Cherry Red and Pure White, along with the option to have a 32GB memory card included in the package, for $99 more, of course.

"Customers [in the US] can now purchase it in a couple of new colors: New Cherry Red and Pure White. [...] we're offering the Pure White version to customers in the United States exclusively through Best Buy," Dell announced via its community forums.

"Note that both the New Cherry Red and Pure White colors are running Android 1.6, but will be receiving the Froyo OTA upgrades like others."

Sporting a 5-inch touchscreen display, the Streak is the first Android-based slate that Dell brought to the market. Rumor has it that the company would be already working on a successor for this tablet PC, with a larger screen, and with enhanced hardware specs.

Those who would like to order an unlocked tablet PC from Dell should head to the company's website here.
