After a season that has been billed by both audiences and contestants as “the most ridiculous ever,” Dancing With the Stars crowned another winner the other night, in what was nothing short of a nail-biting finale.

As People magazine also points out, the shocking eliminations of the past few weeks and buzz around whether Bristol Palin really deserved to be in the finals made things very tense on the last show of the year.

However, even if Palin did her best to prove critics wrong during her Monday number, she got the lowest scores. Grey and actor Kyle Massey remained the strongest competitors in the running, with almost equal odds of winning.

“With a season full of surprises and shocking eliminations, it’s no mystery that Tuesday’s finale of Dancing with the Stars was a nail-biter, right down to the last remaining minutes of the telecast,” People points out.

Since Palin relied solely on the public vote to stand a good chance at winning the show, the favorites of the night were clearly Grey and Massey. The former won, much to the delight of the audience.

“The audience cheered and the actress broke into tears as her professional partner, Derek Hough, jumped up and down. This is the third win for Hough, who also had victories with Nicole Scherzinger and Brooke Burke,” the aforementioned magazine notes.

“Grey, 50, endured health problems throughout the competition and on Tuesday night danced through pain from a slipped disc,” the report further says.

However, throughout the entire season, Grey distanced herself from the rest of celebrity dancers for being extremely energetic and even more motivated.

Massey too made a very good impression on the public, which explains why he got second place. Bristol Palin, despite intense criticism as regards her dancing skills and, implicitly, her right on being on the show in the finals, finished third.
