Just last week (on Friday to be precise), Go Nintendo reader Mikey was sending in a snag of the Assassin's Creed Altair's Chronicles boxart when he went to GameStop to reserve his own copy. Moments ago Ubisoft issued a report revealing the DS-exclusive's launch date and a few in-game details.

The official report reads: Today Ubisoft, one of the world?s largest video game publishers, unveiled Assassin?s Creed Alta?r's Chronicles, exclusively for the Nintendo DS. The Assassin?s Creed Alta?r?s Chronicles video game will be available at retailers nationwide in February. You didn't expect it hitting the DS so soon, did you now? Well, they like doing a good clean job over there at Ubisoft (except for the glitches of course).

As the French developers inform, Assassin's Creed Altair's Chronicles is indeed the direct prequel of the critically acclaimed console title Assassin?s Creed. This is where players finally uncover more about their favorite video game character/hero, Alta?r. His story is said to be quite deep, so get ready for a heart pounding adventure unfolding on two screens at the same time.

Also, gamers will venture in a fully realized 3D world where players will travel and battle through a total of four cities of the Crusade?s Middle East, using acrobatic moves, combo attacks that mix sword skills and high-flying kicks, similar to the console version.

"The success of Assassin?s Creed worldwide has been incredible and we?re excited to delve deeper into the story and bring it to the Nintendo DS," said John Parkes, EMEA Marketing Director at Ubisoft. "Assassin?s Creed Alta?r?s Chronicles will be a title that resonates with those who played the console version as well as those who have yet to discover the secrets of Assassin?s Creed."

Main features of the game, as revealed by the snagged boxart, sound a little something like this:

Features - pull off amazing acrobatic moves and explore a fully 3D-rendered medieval world - master swordfights, stealth assassinations, combo attacks, and a variety of weapons - use your stylus to interrogate informers and pickpocket precious items from the crowd

Assassin?s Creed Alta?r?s Chronicles is rated 12+ by PEGI. The game will be made available in February, exclusively for owners of Nintendo's dual-screened handheld, the DS, and has a price point set at ?29.99.
