According to a Motorola employee

Mobile phone carrier Verizon Wireless and leading handset vendor Motorola are set to offer the new Android 2.2 Froyo operating system to the owners of a DROID X smartphone at the beginning of the next month. The solution is already rolling-out for the owners of a DROID by Motorola device on Verizon's airwaves, and should be delivered to other DROID devices too.

It seems that some of the mobile phone's early adopters are experiencing some issues with the Exchange 2003 email, and Motorola is readying a fix that would be released along with the Android 2.2 OS version. A Motorola employee announced officially via the company's support forums that the solution is set to arrive in early next month.

“Some Droid X users are experiencing an issue using Exchange 2003 email. Though the email is arriving on the Droid X, no notifications are appearing. A fix for this will be included in the upgrade to Android 2.2 scheduled for deployment by early September,” a recent post on Motorola's support forums reads. Since the arrival of Android 2.2 for DROID X seems to have been already carved in stone, all that remains to be seen is when exactly Big Red would start its deployment.

The DROID X by Motorola was launched on Verizon Wireless' network only several weeks ago, yet the device is already one of the most popular devices running under Google's Android operating system on the United States market. Its capabilities would be enhanced via the Android 2.2 Froyo solution, which was promised ever since the handset landed on the market.

Hopefully, Verizon and Motorola would be able to deliver the software to DROID X users before August is over, or during the first days of September. DROID X is currently seeing high demand at Verizon, something that might change with the launch of a new DROID device from Motorola, namely the long rumored DROID 2 slider.
