Mobile phone maker Motorola has been rumored lately to plan on delivering a new software update for one of its hottest mobile phones currently available on the market, the DROID X by Motorola, within a matter of weeks, and the company already confirmed these plans. Although no official release date for the said update was unveiled for the time being, it seems that August is the deployment time frame.

The handset vendor has put in place a while ago a special page on its website, where it provides its uses with info on plans regarding upgrading various devices to newer versions of the Android operating system, and has recently updated the said page. According to the latest modifications operated there, the DROID X by Motorola is expected to receive the Android 2.2 Froyo update “in late summer.”

Unfortunately, this does not provide specific details on when that should happen, but it seems that we might be looking at a release in the second half of August, rather than the first half as previously rumored. One thing that is certain, and which might be seen as good news too, is that Motorola and Verizon won't make us wait too long before the solution is delivered.

The aforementioned page on Motorola's website also shows that the company plans on deploying the Android 2.2 Froyo software update for the original DROID by Motorola starting with this week, just as announced several days ago. Both Motorola and Verizon Wireless, DROID's carrier, committed to providing their customers with the software solution within a matter of weeks, and it seems that the process already kicked off.

As for other mobile phones included in the company's Android family, no official details on when or whether they would receive the Android 2.2 Froyo update have been released. The company mentions only the Android 2.1 software update for some of these devices, including MILESTONE, BACKFLIP or CLIQ and CLIQ XT, but only for certain markets, while stating that it is evaluating the availability of this solution for other countries.
