In the third quarter of this year, Crucial plans to update its product portfolio with two new lines of DDR2 and DDR3 memory that address the needs of a broad range of users including enthusiasts, gamers and overclockers.

The new product lines are called Ballistix Tactical and Ballistix Elite, and they both feature a new logo and improved heatspreader design.

Starting with the Ballistix Tactical memory line, this is comprised of both DDR3 and DDR2 models with speeds ranging from DDR2-800 to DDR3 1600MHz in a variety of speeds and densities.

Much more interesting however, as far as overclockers are concerned, is the Ballistix Elite series, which is comprised out of only DDR3 models, which can reach speeds as high as 2133MHz. Timings were also optimized in order to deliver top notch performance.

In addition, Crucial also states that the Elite series uses an enhanced mechanical designs for the heatspreader as well as integrated thermal sensors and an all-black PCB.

“We understand that memory is not a one-size-fits-all product — we know our users, we know their diverse needs, and we can fulfill those needs with a broad range of choices,” said Jeremy Mortenson, senior product manager at Crucial.

“By enhancing both the design and product features, we’re offering a comprehensive selection of Ballistix memory based on usage needs while building upon the stability and compatibility synonymous with the Crucial name,” concluded the company's rep.

The Ballistix Elite memory series uses high-profile heatspreaders, while the Tactical modules use a low-profile heatsink design.

Both product lines will be available in September 2011 on the company's website and through global channel partners.

Outside of the Tactical and Elite lines, the previously released Ballistix Sport series will also be reintroduced in September to include the new brand logo.
