All those who said Courtney Stodden’s May-December marriage to Doug Hutchison wouldn’t last were absolutely correct, because the two are getting a divorce now. In a new interview, the former “Teen Bride” explains what went wrong in the relationship and how her age made it impossible for her to grow old with Doug.

Courtney was almost 17 when she married 51-year-old Doug. The wedding was only possible after her mother and father signed off on it, with all parties involved constantly telling the press that it was not some shameless PR stunt, as many believed – and still do.

The 19-year-old blonde is now saying the same about her split: Courtney sat down for an interview with E! News to explain her decision to divorce Doug and, at the same time, to speak a little about her plans for the future.

The photo attached to this article is a screenshot from the interview: Courtney has brand new lips after getting injections and also a newfound love for glitter, because she seems to have dipped herself in the stuff.

“I couldn't neglect my desires and wanting to embrace my independence and freedom,” she says of the impending divorce, while explaining that she realized her marriage was doomed when she traveled to London to be on Celebrity Big Brother UK.

The breakup is stressful like any other, she continues, though she also admits that she’s “happy and free” when the interviewer notes that she acts and giggles with joy like someone who’s just been “released from prison.”

“I feel like a little girl again. Just being able to start over. When I was 16, I got my marriage license instead of my driver's license. I had this new-found celebrity. I was a personality overnight,” she says in response.

The pressure was huge also on account of the fact that, because of the marriage, Doug lost everything, from his family to his contacts in the industry, so she became his sole reason for living. Courtney claims she had no idea that their relationship would come across as something so “weird and strange,” but she understands it now.

She insists the divorce is for real, just like the marriage was.

“I don't understand why we would do that right now, with how many people were against us. This isn't a stunt,” Stodden says, tears welling up in her eyes.
