14 DAY TRIAL // Courtney Stodden married Doug Hutchison in Las Vegas when she was only 16 (and he was 51) so, yes, you could say that she married “too young.” In a statement to the Daily Mail, the controversial couple confirms they have split because of her age.
Because she was still underage when she tied the knot to a man older than her father, Stodden was dubbed the “Teen Bride” in the press, a nickname she instantly set out to own and, if possible, to make as controversial as possible.
In recent months, she started transforming herself into a Barbie doll through plastic surgery, which is when rumors that the marriage wouldn’t last really began picking up speed. When she did Celebrity Big Brother UK, they literally skyrocketed and eventually climaxed last weekend, when she threw a Halloween party without Doug.
As it turns out, the reports were true: they did separate and will be getting a divorce, though, for the time being, they’re still living together.
“After two and a half years of marriage, Courtney and Doug have decided to become legally separated. Courtney was married at a young age. Now, at nineteen, she's interested in exploring life as an unmarried single young adult – with the freedom to explore her independence,” reads their joint statement.
“Doug supports Courtney 100 per cent. The two will share custody of their precious pup, Dourtney, remain living in the same house [for now] in separate bedrooms, and Doug will be co-managing Courtney's career,” it adds.
The statement also includes a few words from Doug, who says they “love each other very much” and will continue to remain best friends “for life.” As Courtney’s co-manager (with her mother), that probably depends on how successful they are as a team.
As for the “freedom” Courtney is looking forward to enjoying as a single woman, word has it she’s already doing that because she allegedly cheated on Doug while in the UK for the reality show, and she’s already moved the man in with her.
