14 DAY TRIAL // After a little over two years of marriage – and of intense media coverage because of said marriage – Courtney Stodden, 19, has split from her 53-year-old husband, actor Doug Hutchison, various glossies confirm.
Stodden became internationally known when she married Doug while still underage. She was instantly dubbed “Teen Bride” and started capitalizing on the May-December union by doing countless appearances with Doug, all of them meant to shut up critics for good and prove that they were really in love.
Admittedly, Courtney has had it with “love” and is looking forward to enjoying life on her own for now. Insiders tell Us Weekly that she had her first taste of freedom while shooting Celebrity Big Brother in the UK, where Doug could not join her because producers thought ratings would be bigger if she came on alone.
They weren’t wrong. At the same time, being on the reality series helped Courtney see the kind of life she could have if she just got a divorce.
“After Courtney experienced being in Celebrity Big Brother in the UK she realized that there is this whole world out there to explore. She was so reliant on Doug up until doing the show, but after going so far away, she realized she could survive by herself,” says a tipster.
More like “she realized she was almost of age now and didn’t need Doug to chaperone her to get media attention,” if you ask us.
Radar Online claims that Doug is totally heartbroken because, despite the huge age difference (he is actually older than her father), he fell in love with her and was hoping their relationship would eventually work out.
“Doug knew he was taking a risk with the marriage, but he genuinely feel in love with Courtney and didn’t realize how much his life would be changed after they got married,” a spy reveals.
The two are yet to go on the record on this, but Courtney threw a party for Halloween at their home and, from what we can make out from photos available online, Doug wasn’t there. Courtney wasn’t wearing her engagement ring and wedding band either so, if we’re to go by the signs, they’re pretty much over.
