Glow-in-the-dark or plain-old bigger

Set to be launched in November, James Cameron's Avatar: The Game will come out on the PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Wii, PSP, and DS. Now, that's a complete platform coverage. But developer and publisher Ubisoft wants to go that extra mile, so it has also announced limited-edition bundles of the game on the PS3, Xbox and Wii.

These little bundles of joy have yet to be given an exact price, and probably await quietly to be paired with the more dedicated or enthusiastic fans of the upcoming release, in some dank storage depot. Every single one of the special copies will arrive with its very own Mattel action figures inspired by Cameron's Universe. The Wii platform will come with a glow-in-the-dark Na'vi Warrior Tsu'Tey, standing at four inches high, while the more serious PS3 and Xbox 360 will be packed with a six-inch Avatar Jake Scully action figure.

The PC, PlayStation and Xbox versions are developed in stereoscopic 3D and will make use of the Dunia engine and Havok physics. This versatile engine stood at the basis of the gorgeous-looking Far Cry 2, while the Havok physics is what powers the destruction force behind the latest Red Faction: Guerrilla. With other big names attached to the science behind the game, like Beowulf 3D and Monsters vs. Aliens that share the stereoscopic 3D gimmick, the title looks like it could prove to be another decent outcome of a movie spin-off, for eye-candy, if not anything else.

The game will have an independent story, sharing only the universe the movie instilled. Developer Ubisoft Montreal worked in close collaboration with Cameron to give birth to an accurate depiction of this world, along with the creation of new characters, vehicles, and weapons. Still, it seems to be quite a few leaps away from reaching the hype of the movie that's been in the making for almost a decade.
