Volition, which would do well to announce that it has been secretly developing a new Descent Freespace videogame, has announced that the first patch for Red Faction: Guerrilla is now live and comes packed not only with needed bug fixes but also with new multiplayer options and other content. The patch can be downloaded on the PlayStation 3 and on the Xbox 360, and enables a Double XP weekend for the game, which is set to last until midnight on Sunday, August 8.

The patch will make all the Ore deposits that remain untouched on the map glow bright purple, meaning that the “Working the Land” will require less effort on the part of the player. Various icons are also fixed, the movement of convoys after the completion of the last mission has also been reworked, and various kinks with the matchmaking have been eliminated.

The fresh Red Faction: Guerrilla patch introduces a new Challenge Mode for the Wrecking Crew section of the game. It consists of three rounds with different loadouts for the players and the objective is to get as many points as possible.

Volition is saying that in addition to the Challenge Mode allows players to enjoy Wrecking Crew in single player, with a leaderboard system also being introduced. The new patch brings the four new Wrecking Crew levels that were previously only available to those who pre-ordered the game.

The patch is needed to set up the game for the upcoming downloadable content pack that is set to arrive on August 14, called Demons of the Badlands. It seems that Volition is pretty dedicated to offering a lot of support for Red Faction: Guerrilla, increasing the longevity of both the single player and the multiplayer sections of the title.
