Konami Digital Entertainment has announced that it is producing and releasing a new horror videogame named Calling, which is being developed by Hudson Soft. The game is only being created for the Nintendo Wii and the publisher hopes to have it out in early 2010.

The big selling point of Calling, which Konami is emphasizing at the moment is the way it uses the Wiimote as a phone. The protagonist of the game wakes up in a dark room with only a light and a cell phone in his possession. As the player begins to explore the environment, the phone will ring and they will need to answer it by raising it to their ear in order to hear the ghostly voice that will then lead them through the horror experience of Calling.

It's not clear whether the calls and the fact that they are tied to the Wiimote will mean that the characters cannot move and is vulnerable while receiving the calls but it would make sense given the name of the game.

Mike Pepe, who is the director of marketing at Hudson Entertainment, stated that “Players will be asked to use their wits and senses to survive the world of Calling. It is a game that revolves around real people and real emotions – no chain saws or suits of armor. The game is traditional survival horror at its finest.”

The story is built around a web site called Page of Black. Apparently, all those who visit it will then die from a coma generated by an unknown cause. Trapped in a place called the Border, somewhere between life and death, players will need to explore the environment and solve puzzles so that they can escape the Border and solve the mystery of the Page of Black. The areas that will be explorable include houses, schools and hospitals in order to get the objects and puzzle pieces needed to complete the game.
