One of the most popular and alluring video game characters is the lovely Lara Croft, the heroine of Eidos' Tomb Raider franchise. From her pixelated debut back in the 1990s to her high-definition glory in the latest Tomb Raider Underworld, Lara has always managed to guarantee some reasonable sales for the European publisher, which has just been acquired by Square Enix and rebranded.

Now, as her latest installment, Underworld, didn't really break any records, it seems that the newly appointed Square Enix Europe will implement a reboot for the Tomb Raider franchise, and Lara will be moving from the third person platformer and exploration genre to a darker, more horror survival one, complete with zombie-like monsters.

According to a website that claims to have a mole inside Eidos, it would seem that the next title will have both open world and survival horror elements. Lara will also have the ability to mount animals, like horses, which will help her in a fight against some monster-like enemies.

A description has also surfaced, which would hint at a reboot similar to how Batman or James Bond received in their latest movies. Let's not forget that the president of Eidos, Ian Livingstone, has declared that a reboot will be something the company will take into consideration in the future for the series.

Here's a part of the description found on the website, which now reads that the Eidos lawyers have forwarded a complaint to remove the content displayed on it.

“When a sudden storm destroys her research vessel, a young and inexperienced Lara Croft finds herself stranded on a mysterious and remote island hidden off the shores of Japan. Despite several signs of various inhabitants the island is oddly deserted, and an uneasy feeling settles in as strange sounds emerge from the shadows. With only her determination, inner strength, and resourcefulness to help her, Lara must overcome the challenges of a harsh and unforgiving journey that will take her across a vast island wilderness and deep into the claustrophobic and menacing underground tombs from the island's past. As she struggles to prevail through brutal combat encounters and treacherous exploration, Lara will be pushed to her limits and forced to adapt to her situation in order to survive and escape from the lethal predators that stalk her every move.”

The text also described the fact that Lara will use new weapons and the environment to her advantage against the multitude of enemies. As of yet, except for the action taken by Eidos lawyers, the company hasn't released a statement regarding the rumors.
