Glen Schofield, the general manager of Sledgehammer Games, the co-developer of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, has praised the engine of the new title, dismissing any criticism that it's an old technology with little improvements in regards to the previous Call of Duty games like Black Ops or Modern Warfare 2.

Activision's Call of Duty series was created by Infinity Ward and, since the second entry in series back in 2005, has ran on the same IW Engine, with new refinements and technologies added with every new iteration.

This drew in quite a lot of criticism earlier this year, when Battlefield 3, the rival of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, began hyping up its all-new Frostbite 2 engine.

Infinity Ward defended its development strategy at that time, and now its co-developer on MW3, Sledgehammer Games, has also praised the IW Engine, describing it like an efficient Porsche sportscar.

"I'll tell you one thing," Glen Schofield, Sledgehammer general manager, said to CVG. "I've worked on a lot of engines over my lifetime and spent a lot of time putting graphics in to them and this thing is Porsche. And what I mean by that is that it's stream-lined, everything in it is perfectly freaking clean. You can tell it's been worked on for years. It's easy to upgrade.

"We worked with engines before that are like spaghetti. You can't work on a part and put it back in without messing with everything else. Modern Warfare 3's levels now are so much bigger than the old ones because they go more vertically, they have a bigger footprint and on top of that, higher fidelity, more textures and a lot more detail."

Schofield highlighted key ares where improvements were made, including gun models, reflections, water effects and the general detail of the experience.

"There is so much that we've added, so when someone says 'cut and paste', I don't even want to talk to them because they don't know. They just don't know. They have no idea," Schofield concluded.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is set to appear on November 8, for the PC, PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Nintendo Wii.
