The Bungie Aerospace Corporation, a company which is headed by the same team of executives that led the video game developer, has filled a trademark for the name “Crimson” on May 4 with the United States Patent and Trademark Office.

The application shows Crimson listed as a “computer game software downloadable from a global computer network.”

It also lists the name as applicable to “Computer game software for use on mobile and cellular phones” and also “Downloadable computer game software via a global computer network and wireless devices.”

Bungie has been very tight lipped about what it is currently working on and the new trademark might shed some light on what the company has planned for the future.

The fact that Bungie spawned off the Aerospace Corporation was a surprise, with some speculating that the new company might work on spin off titles while some say that the new name was linked to the game engine that will power future Bungie titles.

At the moment Bungie is working with publisher Activision Blizzard as part of a ten-year deal that involves the creation of a new gaming universe and of titles that use it in innovative ways.

Recently, Bungie has been staffing up with some mobile developers, which suggests that it will be launching its new title on as many devices as possible, while also recruiting a number of gamers for its beta test group, although it’s not clear what they will be testing.

At the GDC 2011 conference, Joseph Staten, a writer and designer at Bungie, seemed to hint at what the future holds by saying, “Wouldn't it be great if we could make a world that was always there for you, with lots of stories to tell, like a big, infinite storytelling horizon? Man, that would be great.”

The company denied that it was working on an MMO FPS.
