Video game developer Bohemia Interactive has confirmed that it will be including Stratis, a new island, in its upcoming ArmA 3 video game, complete with new interest points and a number of new options when it comes to gameplay.

The island is called Stratis and is located in the northern section of the Aegean Sea, offering 19 square kilometers filled with vegetation and interest points.

Initially, it was supposed to be a green energy paradise, but it was then occupied by the United States Army because of its strategic location.

Ivan Buchta, who is a creative director working at Bohemia Interactive, has stated, “Stratis fits our setting perfectly. Mostly because of the dense vegetation, it feels different than Limnos, and by adding many fictional features, we’ve enhanced the original realistic terrain.

“I’m sure players will love the scenery: the military camps, airbase, radar site, romantic coves – not to forget the shipwrecks and rocks scattered underwater.”

He added, “The fact that Stratis is relatively small, compared to the gigantic Limnos area, should not fool you; the island has enough space to facilitate all kinds of gameplay, including massive multiplayer battles. Just know, once the Community Alpha is out, I’ll be watching from the best sniper spots.”

ArmA 3 is set to take place during a war between Eastern forces and NATO, and it will use the new Real Virtuality engine in order to faithfully simulate all aspects of the battlefield experience.

Limnos will be the main area for ArmA 3 and the development team plans to offer more options when it comes to vehicle use and team-based play.

Bohemia Interactive plans to offer more details on ArmA 3 during the upcoming E3 2012 event as well as announcing when the Community Alpha stage gets launched.
