Independent developer Bohemia Interactive, the original creators of the Operation Flashpoint series and of the Arma concept, have announced that they are working on Arma 3, the third installment in the military simulation series that aims to deliver a battle experience as close to real life as possible.

The developers are saying that Arma 3 will be created using a complex new engine which will create environments and situations that are more believable than ever.

The game will be launched exclusively on the PC during summer 2012.

The single player campaign will focus on a conflict between NATO and Eastern armies, with a small group of Special Forces send deep behind enemy lines to uncover a military secret operation.

Players will play the role of Captain Scott Miller, who is the only survivor of the operation and must survive in hostile space and then rebuild his taskforce and command it in battle.

The simulation will include a number of new vehicles, ships and aircraft, with a huge array of simulated weapons and situations and full use of the PhysX system to add a sense of reality to Arma 3.

The game will also offer both cooperative and competitive multiplayer and a full editor which allows any player to create his own scenarios.

Arma 3 will also be offering full support for user-created mods.

Marek Spanel, who is the chief executive officer of Bohemia Interactive, has said, “We're happy to bring the next generation of the Real Virtuality engine to life. The increased potential of the engine should allow Arma 3 to become our best-looking, most detailed and innovative military simulation game to date.”

The creative director working on Arma 3, Ivan Buchta, has added, “Our ambition is not only to deliver the next generation of Arma with the improved engine, but also to fully exploit the potential of our new technology in the gameplay. You can look forward to the unique experience of blending sandbox-style combat with a rich story.”
