Midway Games Inc. announced on the 29th of January that they are in the development of a new PS3 title. BlackSite: Area 51 is an action packed, first person shooter which throws gamers in to battle against alien enemy forces using the infamous U.S. government landmark, Area 51 and the surrounding areas as the battlefield backdrop.

Set in present day, players take the role of a decorated military veteran hired by the government to lead a squadron of "secret soldiers," each presenting special skills, into the Nevada desert to fight off the invasion of alien enemies. So far, so good. But then, Midway goes and shows off something that is going to be the sequel of a not that spectacular game like it's going to be the bomb but doesn't actually say anything solid about the new stuff their game is going to bring.

Denise Fulton, studio head, Midway Studios - Austin says: "BlackSite: Area 51 gives players the opportunity to experience next-generation, first person shooter action in one of the world's most intriguing and mysterious environments. Gamers will be instantly immersed in the game's seamless storyline, set in the desert and small towns surrounding Area 51 that feature highly detailed environments that transform themselves into awesome battlefields. Without question, BlackSite: Area 51 will raise the bar in the next generation FPS genre with its stunning visuals, life-like squad interactions and its multitude of online multiplayer modes." Nothing we haven't heard before.

So, BlackSite: Area 51 will take next-gen gaming to an all-new level huh? Integrating cutting edge technology, game design and story writing to create the ultimate entertainment experience...bla, bla, bla. Like we haven't heard this a hundred trillion times before, even from less acclaimed publishers and developers that made some pretty good games. Keeping in mind what the last Area 51 game was like, well... let's just say we'll wait and see what the new one is all about. Don't get me wrong, the game was OK, but it seems that the new one doesn't bring that much new stuff. All I can agree with are the breathtaking graphics. Just the in-game trailer available on YouTube can make it a winner.
