Asus has just announced the introduction of a new NAS (network attached storage) solution for home and small office users which can store as much as 6TB of data and also comes with some advanced data backup features.

The new device is called the Asus M25 NAS and it features two 3.5-inch drive bays, which are compatible with SATA HDDs with capacities as high as 3TB.

These can be setup to run either in a JBOD mode or in RAID 0/1, with full automatic rebuild support for RAID 1 arrays.

Additional storage devices can be attached via three USB 2.0 ports (one in the front and two in the back), which also support adding a printer thanks to the built-in print server.

At the heart of the NAS sits a Marvell ARM processor that operates at 1.2GHz, which is paired together with 512MB of DDR2 memory and 128MB of flash memory.

This advanced configuration allowed Asus to implement a wide series of features in the M25 including BitTorrent support, an FTP, HTTP and Samba server, an iTunes server, as well as a series of other data backup services.

One of the most advanced is called FarStone DriveClone and can be configured to take a periodical snapshot of the computers attached to the NAS, which can then be restored when the need arises by simply booting of the Asus device.

Other features of the M25 NAS include DLNA compatibility, one touch USB auto backup, DDNS support, UPS support as well as a dual firmware design which restores full operational capabilities in the event of one of the firmware versions suffering any difficulties.

Asus states that the M25 NAS should be available immediately for purchase and comes with a recommended price tag of €212.90. (via ComputerBase)
