Quite a lot of details about Asus' Eee Note EA-800 eReader have been emerging in the last week or so, all pointing towards an imminent release date, the EA-800 just being made official by Asus that has released this note-taking tablet in Taiwan for an estimated $228, other countries being soon to follow.

As you probably know by now, the Eee Note EA-800 is quite an interesting little contraption, coming as a tablet/eReader hybrid, its 8-inch LCD monochrome display making it a lot better suited for reading than for watching multimedia content.

However, going with a monochrome LCD screen allowed Asus to keep the price down, the EA-800 being a great deal cheaper than the its older brother, the DR-900, that comes with digital ink display and retails for about $391.

Although not so great when it comes to battery life, the EA-800 being rated at about 13.5 hours when in constant use, the 8-inch display does come with some interesting capabilities as it can display images at a 1024x768 resolution and features 256 levels of sensitivity, making the difference between a dot, a dash and a stroke.

Powered by a special Linux operating system, the Eee Note EA-800 comes pre-installed with special software for reading e-Books, writing notes, drawing and recording.

Other features include a Web browser and WiFi connectivity, the device also featuring a 2MP camera on the back, a micro-USB port, 4GB of internal storage space as well as an MP3 player app.

According to SlashGear, the Asus Eee Note EA-800 will reach Taiwanese stores sometimes this week, Hong Kong following shortly thereafter.

Until this year ends, or right after 2011 begins, Asus plans to launch the Eee Note EA-800 in several European countries, China as well as the U.S. receiving this in the first quarter of 2011.
