Just a few days ago we reported on Asus' plans of changing the name of its Eee Tablet in order to distinguish itself from all the other tablets available out there, the company just making its new name official, Asus' slate being now dubbed the Eee Note EA800.

Said to be released in January during CES 2011, Asus' Eee Note is more of a cross between a eReader and a slate than a tablet, the company using a monochrome display for this 8 inch device, that comes with a XGA, 768x1024 resolution, and can display 64 shades of gray.

Since this is designed to be used together with a stylus as well as with the finger, the display is made extra hard and can detect 256 levels of pressure in order to express different words weight.

Other hardware specifications include 802.11b/g wireless connectivity, 4GB of internal storage memory that is upgradeable via a microSD card slot, a 3.5mm earphone Jack, 2MP webcam as well as a 1 Watt speaker and microphone.

Also, somewhere in the compact 139x222.4x11mm and 520g chassis, Asus managed to squeeze in a 3700mAh battery that should provide up to 13.5 hours of reading time with the wireless off (10 hours when wireless is turned on).

Running a custom Linux operating system, the Eee Note is compatible with a wide range of content formats, including PDF, ePub, MP3 , JPEG, DOCX and PPTX, the software allowing users to take handwritten as well as video or audio notes, making this ideal for students and boardroom meetings.

Although these are all the infos that are available at this time, we should definitely start to see more of the Eee Note (and other Asus tablets as well) in the future, as each day that passes brings us a bit closer to CES 2011. (via Notebookitalia)
