ASUS has reportedly decided to change the name of one of its upcoming products by the time it is set to actually show up in stores, though exact info on the hardware still hasn't been published outright.

With all the slates and tablets making their way to the market and showing up in the news, end-users can be said to have begun associating 'pad and 'slate' and 'tablet' with any consumer electronic resembling Apple's iPad.

Whether for this reason or another, ASUS has decided, or so says Engadget, to rename its Eee Tablet sooner rather than later.

The possible names that the outfit has in mind are something along the lines of Eee Note or Digital Note.

The Eee Tablet is not a media slate, despite what first impressions may be. It is more of a mix between an e-reader and a digital notebook, one that can also be used for drawing.

This is possible thanks to what looks like a high-precision touchscreen with stylus recognition. Said screen has a resolution of 1,024 x 768 pixels and support for 64 shades of gray.

Unfortunately, the rest of the specifications are still unknown, except for what previous sightings and rumors managed to relay.

The product supposedly has wireless connectivity of some sort and a microSD card slot, but nothing is known specifically about the insides.

This means that the amount of storage and everything else about it will only be made known later on.

So far, ASUS only put a prototype of the Eee Tablet on display at Computex, Taipei, several months ago.

By the time early 2011 comes around, with CES 2011 being the most likely even to include the official launch, the company will make some modifications.

There is no knowing what said changes will entail precisely, but all mysteries should be elucidated once January arrives.
