Better than Wii Sports Resort

The videogame chart has a new leader in United Kingdom. Codemasters has timed the release of Ashes Cricket 2009 to coincide with the historical cricket series between Australia and England and the results are showing.

The game sits in the first spot even as the two cricket teams are getting ready for the decisive fifth encounter in the series and with the excitement around the sport continuing the game could keep this position during next week.

The previous chart topper, Wii Sports Resort, the show piece for the Motion Plus add-on for the Wiimote, is now in second placed, followed by another Nintendo-made game, Wii Fit, that comes packed with the Balance Board peripheral, which also slid one place to third spot.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 from EA Sports also goes down by one place to number four, with Fight Night Round 4 sitting still at number five. It's interesting to note that the first five positions in the United Kingdom videogame chart are occupied by titles that simulate real life sporting activities or fitness programs.

Harry Potter & Half Blood Prince from Electronic Arts is the first non sporting title, at number six, with Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, from Ubisoft telling a Wild West story that seems to have drawn in players, at number seven.

Mario Kart Wii from Nintendo has re-entered the top ten at number eight and the Disney G-Force videogame, based on the movie with the same name, starring special forces rodents, sits at number nine, while The Sims 3 seems ready to slip out of the top ten just as Electronic Arts has announced an expansion for it, World Adventures, coming in November.

The biggest loser of the week is Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen from Activision, which slid down from sixth spot to 16 as the ticket sales of the movie on which it is based also fall.
