When it comes to videogames

The summer months are long and hot and the relative lack of movement in the United Kingdom videogame chart seems to reflect that. Still, it makes sense to take a look at it and see which games perform in these tough economic times.

The top position remains in the hands of Wii Sports Resort from Nintendo, which is being published for the Wii home gaming console. It's not clear whether the game is successful because players enjoy the activities included, like cycling, archery and wakeboarding, or because it is sold together with the Wii Motion Plus, an add-on for the Wiimote, which promises more complete motion tracking for upcoming games.

Second spot in the chart is taken over by another Nintendo Wii bound game, Wii Fit, which was released last year and still manages regular top ten finishes. EA Sports breaks the Nintendo monopoly on the top positions with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10, another sports-oriented game.

Harry Potter & The Half Blood Prince, released by Electronic Arts at the same time as the movie bearing the homonymous name, fell two places to number four, while Fight Night Round 4, published by EA Sports, managed to climb one position to get into the top five at the expense of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, another videogame based on a blockbuster summer movie release.

The Sims 3, which is now set to get an expansion pack, is at number eight, while UFC 2009: Undisputed from THQ has managed to comeback from twelfth spot to reach number eight this week. It's followed by yet another EA Sports title, the Wii Fit rival Active, and by Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood from Ubisoft. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare left the top ten and is now lying at number 12.
